stART - If you give a mouse a cookie

A story + Art = a great stART!!!

This week we read If You Give A Mouse A Cookie, by Laura Numeroff... very cute book that goes through a series of events...if you give them a cookie they will want milk...which leads to something else...eventually ending up back at the Mouse will want a cookie...

For our project we made a cake...that was cut into bite sized squares...making it a cookie? We used a yellow cake mix; then swirled in some chocolate sauce (making it marbled); added some butterscotch chips throughout the top; and eventually topped it with a little bit of powdered sugar...Very Yummy....

Ryleigh adding the "wet" ingredients to the mixture...
Stirring the batter...I LOVE these cooking utensils (as does Ryleigh)...
the bendy legs and arms get me every time...
Ryleigh adding the butterscotch chips to the top...I didn't get any pictures of the chocolate being added...because I added it..and then used a knife to swirl it...
The finished yummy project....we cut them into little bite sized squares...

Baking with Ryleigh - Dairy Free Chocolate Cake

Last week while I was holding down the fort solo, I tried to keep as busy as possible...with low key activities. Ryleigh really enjoys baking and does a great job...a.k.a....this is not a stressful activity for me... Also, since I still cannot have Dairy due to Braeden's milk protein allergy...I was totally in the mood for some chocolate.... Anyway....while Braeden took a nap, Ryleigh and I spent some quality time in the kitchen :

Ryleigh stirring some Flour...

Pouring in some oil and water...

The finished cake...I let Ryleigh pick out which cake pan she wanted to put it in :)
