School Daze- Week Thirty

Ryleigh is 37 Months and Braeden is 9 Months

This week we did Letter of the week "Y" is for Yellow... our shape firefly stART project...a lot of pattern work, musical mondays, dance class...and a trial for gymnastics...which she loved...hopefully we will be able to go back this year...

Putting sticker smiley faces on a "Y"...
great for letter recognition...and fine motor skills...

Working on a find the Letter Printable for "Y"
From Confessions of a Homeschooler, here she is working on numbers...
Tracing from her Kumon workbook...
I put the pages in page protectors and give her a dry erase marker...
so we can reuse them...
Working on her Melissa and Doug Patterns with Granny
Working on a pattern worksheet from the dollar store...
I also put it in a page protector to do again...
This week we made cupcakes..."Y" is for "Yummy cupcakes"... that works right?
The girls frosted and decorated them by themselves...
For "Y" is for Yellow... the girls painted the Y yellow and then glued some yellow items on...including felt, pipe-cleaners, pom poms, stickers and beads...Our stART shape project...

Tiny Tot School:
New in Braeden's world this week is the addition of the second tooth...just a sliver...but it is there... also...new favorite toy...paper towel roll....
Examining the roll...

Accepting the roll as an acceptable toy...
and by "toy"...I mean thing to bang against something...
Playing with Ryleigh...luckily I have quite the supply of these rolls...
as I am always project ready...
He also enjoys some quality reading time...
He likes to try and get the books off the shelf before I either A-notice or B-finish picking up the rest of the books... and finds the whole process extremely amusing...most of the time this activity ends with some serious giggles...

stART - The Very Lonely Firefly

A story + Art = A great stART!!!
For this week's project we read The Very Lonely Firefly by Eric Carle and did A shape Firefly.... I thought it would be great color/shape/follow directions review as well as a cute project.... Ryleigh's favorite part of the story is the end...where the fireflies all light up...

The Firefly is made up entirely by shapes of different color: Hearts, Oval, Circles, Rectangles, Triangle, Stars...I chose different colors to represent the color style found in most Eric Carle books....
Putting on the wings...(small hearts ontop of bigger hearts)...
Putting on the body (oval)...
Putting on the light-up part..(triangle)...
I had them also add a yellow circle sticker for the actual light...
Putting on the eyes (circles)...

Putting the felt legs on (rectangles)...
Putting on stars...because fireflies are out at night...
Our finished firefly...

Outdoor fun...

Last week it was super hot here...so the girls got to run through my friend Dawn's sprinklers....Ryleigh was not exactly excited about it...however...did look cute in her suit... I think she may be more of the drink by the pool kind of gal...much like her mother...Braeden enjoyed spending some quality time with Anna and Juliette...

Ryleigh running away from the sprinkler....

The Syracuse Zoo...

This year for Memorial Day, we traveled to upstate NY....a long car ride... one of the fun activities that we did was go to the zoo...it was actually Braeden's first time at the zoo (I know...9 months old and had never been before;)) ...anyhoodle here are some of the pictures from our adventurous weekend....

Ryleigh...writing a "list"...of things Elmo likes to do...in our hotel room...
Braeden...chillin' ...
The Elmos...only two came with us...Elmo and Baby Elmo...
(They look exactly alike, but she can tell them apart....)

Grandma with Braeden...enjoying the nice weather
Ryleigh and I...also enjoying the nice weather...
Ryleigh watching the ducks...they are her favorite
The many faces of Braeden...
Curious...
Amused...
The "are you kidding me with this- get the camera out of my face-
you are blocking my view of the animals"...

Ryleigh looking at the bear
Touching the wool...ok she isn't really touching it...but I did have her pose like she was....
it is believable right?

Milking a goat...(made out of wood...but still)
Ryleigh...briefly glancing at the elephant...
and then wanting to go back to milk the goat again...

Back to the goat...

* I did not include the pictures of the animals that we saw because...well...it's not really about them... and I plan on using them...wait for it....for a future school post...I know...you...are...shocked...

School Daze Week Twenty - Nine

Ryleigh is 37 Months and Braeden is 9 Months

This week was a shorter...more relaxed week...as I think most of our summer "school" weeks will be... but isn't that one of the greatest perks about summer? ....

Here is Braeden with "the ladies" after Art Group on Friday... the older girls were playing...sort of...on the swingset.
Thank you Melissa for sending me this picture!!!
Do-a Dotting...(with Bingo Markers)...the find the Letter Printable
From Confessions of a Homeschooler...
I had the girls work with the laminated number cards and clothespins again...
this time for numbers 1-7...
Great for number practice and fine motor skills....

The girls also played a BINGO game that Michelle picked up from the Dollar Tree....
They did really well with it...great for practicing matching...and listening to directions!
This week I had the girls do Letter of the Week Craft: X is for X-ray Fish.... basically...an X glued onto a fish...not super creative on my part...but semi-cute.....
Ryleigh practiced writing letters on her whiteboard...
I found super-fun (and washable) dry eraser crayons...
Ryleigh cutting paper..we are working on following lines...
TINY TOT SCHOOL
New in Braeden's world this week is the very beginnings of a tooth...you can just start to see the white...and feel it...

Braeden has been very mobile so every now and then I put him in the Play Pen....like when I need to do something where I can't watch him... fear not...Ryleigh hops right in to play too....
Puzzle Time....
Exploring his world...
Apparently because Ryleigh and Braeden have such a good time in the Pack N Play...Elmo and Baby Elmo wanted to try it out....

Where ever she goes...I go...

Ryleigh and Braeden have a lot of fun together....each one likes to try and make the other one laugh...usually it ends in someone...or someones... getting hiccups... whatever Ryleigh is up to Braeden is right there with her... even during the mischievous times...

Here the two decided to tear up a catalog into teeny tiny pieces....and throw them up in the air like leaves.... it was cute to watch...there was lots of giggles...and it didn't take too long to clean up...(Ryleigh cleaned- Braeden watched)
