Messy Summer Fun... Week 5.... the finale...

This week was our Messy Summer Fun Finale....and we had 17 kids...17!!!! So Messy...So Fun!!! We did Toilet Paper Mache... I did this last year with Ryleigh and thought...hmmm.. so messy...perfect for a ton of kids... :-)

I covered plastic cups with plastic wrap...and then had the kids (moms) dip toilet paper into a glue/water solution I made... then stick them on the cups...The older kids (ages 4 and up) caught on to this project and were able to do it themselves (wanting to stick their hands into the goo was a different matter)....
The younger kids (ages 14 months- 3) had a different reaction...they were either SO into it...or really appalled at the thought... Can you guess how Braeden felt about it?
Appalled....
Ryleigh loved it...
Since the shaving cream balloons were such a big hit from earlier this summer, I decided to do them again... and water balloons...
Still a kid favorite!
I think pretty much all the kids were covered...
I'm not sure exactly how this happened... but I have an idea... Sorry Kara!!! :-)
For the water activity/ gross motor skills... we set up a bounce house with a water slide...
How many kids can you fit in one of these?
The water-slide was a fun way to end the messy summer...
The water slide resembled sprinklers too much...so Braeden watched from the top of the club house..
Ending the day with Popsicles...
Hopefully I haven't completely scared away the mommies and they will come back next summer!

Messy Summer Fun... Week 4... Very Messy

This week for messy summer fun one of the things I had the kids do was paint with frozen paint ice cubes... that I made in the shape of Hawaiian masks... I made them by putting a little bit of washable paint in the ice cube tray...added some water... stirred and put in the freezer for 15 minutes... took them out... stirred again... and put them back in the freezer until I was ready to use them... All the kids had a great time with these... they liked both the texture... and the vivid colors...
It was fun to see the colors "melt" onto the paper...
Overall... messy... but definitely not so messy that it couldn't be done inside...without me panicking...
Loved the project....
The next activity I had the kids do I would strongly encourage you not to do in your house...seriously... very messy...
I filled water balloons up with shaving cream... they were awesome... when they popped... the shaving cream held the shape of the balloons...
Also when they popped... the shaving cream went everywhere...
EVERYWHERE!!!
The kids seemed to be upset when we ran out of them... but no worries.. it was not long before they went back to the water fun...
And other backyard toys...
Some peaceful reflection... or observing the water fight...

Messy Summer Fun .... Week 1

This summer I thought it would be fun to offer a "Messy Summer Fun" class/camp for 5 weeks... I have limited it to 20 kids... and am hoping for the best... This morning we had our first session... I have narrowed it down to my favorite 20 pictures....

SENSORY BIN
I made up this summertime sensory bin which included rice, beans, ice cream dishes with little spoons, Hawaiian mask ice cube trays of different colors, ice cream scoops and disposable shot glasses... huge hit with the kids... I have already come up with a theme for next week's bin... I put the bin by our swing set in the shade...so the kids could play with it through out the morning...Braeden... taking a turn on the slide before the messiness began...
Up in the clubhouse....
SHAVING CREAM PAINTING
For our first Messy Activity we did Shaving cream finger painting... we had 15 kids today...and it was nowhere near as messy as I anticipated...which is good I think....
Braeden was pretty unamused by this project... although... he might have been a bit testy from being up since 5 am.... who's to judge really?...
I had two tables set up... next time I will probably use two adjustable tables...
Loving the messy.... besides a great art project (we used primary colors to mix)... this was a great sensory project...
Ryleigh really liked this project...and has requested we do it again...
Braeden...still not really loving this idea...
FROZEN ICE EXCAVATION
I had so much fun making this activity... I froze different shapes and colors of ice...as well as some summertime objects and beads...into one big block of ice... the objective was to get the kids to melt the ice to get to the objects.
Most of the kids headed over after finishing their art projects...
WATER BUCKET RELAY
We split the kids up into two teams (more or less) and had them attempt to fill the other teams bucket until it overflowed... things stayed pretty even for awhile...then they got crafty....

Braeden....enjoyed watching but not participating in this one...most likely because the sprinkler was on by the other bucket...
The game started off civil enough...one bucket per team...
Ryleigh carrying her bucket....
The game got a little dice-ee when one team...or both got creative with other water carrying devices... I believe this ended in one big massive water fight...that pretty much went on for the rest of the morning...
SNACK TIME
The kids enjoyed some mini- slow melt Popsicles for snack... the yard was quiet and semi still for about 5 minutes... :-)
MORE WATER FUN
Having fun in the sprinkler....
Braeden... busy emptying the pool...one bucket-full at a time...
Stay tuned for next weeks messy summer fun....
