Unfortunately both kids have been very sick so we have been a little off our normal routine...both are much better now! We did have lots of time for Tot School though...we focused less on "crafty" this week ....here are the highlights (we did soooooo many trays this week...and repeated them a lot...so I have narrowed it down a bit...not that you can tell by the shear amount of pictures that are here)....:
Ryleigh dressed for dance...before becoming sick...
We practiced cutting...I haven't found a pair of scissors that really work well for her yet....but I am going to try Melissa and Doug out....(hope for the best!)
Tracing....I broke a crayon for her so that she could practice her grip...then I drew some lines for her to follow...
I went to Confessions of a Homeschooler...my newest favorite blog ever!!!.... and printed some of her printables for Ryleigh to work on this week. Then I laminated them for future use...so in love with my laminator....Here she is putting some flat stones on a "S" is for Snowman worksheet.
Braeden has really started to be mobile lately...he not only rolls over (both sides) but he now will skooch himself all over...he does well moving backwards....
Working on some patterns, recognizing/sorting capital and lower case S, and tracing...also some nifty items I printed off Confessions of a Homeschooler....
Ryleigh practiced her gluing and made a Valentine. ... she glued small paper hearts onto a big paper heart that I cut out for her.
We have done this project before, but Ryleigh really liked it so we did it again. She colored with washable markers on a coffee filter and then used a pipette to transfer water over to it...to make the colors run...very pretty...
More from Confessions of a Homeschooler... matching up letters to spell snowman and also working on some numbers....
She has been working on letter recognition and the sound they make.... she knows almost all of them...currently her favorite is "I".... Generally I am not a huge fan of movies/DVDs for her but I do really like Leap Frog's The Letter Factory....she loves it and picked up most of the letter sounds after watching it twice.... here she is playing with her leap frog letter bus (a hand me down)..which quizes about letters/ sounds etc.
Here she is sorting flat rocks by color.... she did not like this activity as much as sorting M&M's by color....
Check out what others are doing in their Tot Schools by clicking here.
What a fun week! I love all of the snowman activities!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness have you been busy!! I love all your activities...it would have been even better if we could have done them together.
ReplyDeleteLove my laminater and confessions of a homeschooler too!!!
Your blog is nice! Great ideas ! (I love Confessions of a Homeschooler too!)
ReplyDeleteWow - you had a busy week! Nice selection of activities! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, so many great things! First of all, I'm glad that the kiddos are feeling better!! I also LOVE how you broke the crayon so that she could really practice her pincer grip with the crayon. Genius!! And, we're currently trying to find the perfect pair of scissors too. Let us know how the Melissa and Doug ones work out.
ReplyDeleteLove it all!
Looks like a fun week!
ReplyDeleteI've been printing like mad over at Confessions of a Homeschooler too.
ReplyDeleteMy tot is very into scissor but is not even close to being able to work them. I'm thinking about getting these http://www.unbeatablesale.com/armd030.html?srccode=cii_11138&cpncode=24-71395884-2 cuz they only have to push one way.
I am also a fan of the Leapfrog videos--my kids picked things up so quickly from the way they present letters (Letter Factory), word building (Talking Words Factory), and numbers (Math Circus). I also love your markers/coffee filter activity--have to try that! (Thanks for stopping by my blog, too! Nice to "meet" you.)
ReplyDeleteGreat activities this week! I'm so excited...got trays over the weekend :) We need to 'contain' our crafts (and food...) better! My take on scissors is, unless there is a physical reason not to, stick with Fiskars (the good old preschool sized ones...they are good quality and easy to use). Do some hand over hand practice to help her out (it's a little tricky at first but you'll get the hand of it quickly). You can also focus on some hand strengthening activities to improve scissor skills. And I ALWAYS break up my kids I treat crayons and chalk for improved grasp...love that you are doing it :)
ReplyDeleteHope all the sickness is gone!
Confessions of a Homeschooler has such great printables and ideas. I love my laminator as well!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to try that coffee filter idea with B this week! Thanks for the reminder of that fun activity!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great week full of activities! I did the coffee filter activity with my 5 year old he loves it as well, we hung ours up around his room to look like planets!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a busy week. I just recently discovered Confessions of a Homeschooler and was extremely impressed too, love the printables. Love the pics of the baby too. Think I may try that coffee filter activity. Cool
