Messy Summer Fun.... Week 3

This was our third week of Messy Summer Fun... and we attempted to paint with pudding... lets remember the key word ATTEMPTED when we get to the craft... otherwise, the kids had fun with some water activities, sensory bin and relay/obstacle race...

Ryleigh... cooling down the slide....
Braeden... ready for action....
Originally I had planned on having the kids paint with vanilla pudding.... it didn't set when I made it... so I added in some corn starch... that didn't do it either...so then I thought... "What could I add to make it thicker?".... Raspberry Jello of course... but no... it still didn't set...
So what we got....was a yummy smelling...very sticky...very messy... MESS... and the kids loved it!!!
I gave them sponges ... from those magic capsules that turn into sponges when you put them in the water.... and had them paint...
Braeden.... refused to respond when I asked him to smile.. as he was intently watching a bug on the ceiling of the tent...
The kids enjoyed this obstacle course... I had them grab a water filled sponge from the bucket...run down the yard and ring out the sponge (and then drop it)...run to water balloons and then run with the balloon to the "X" and try and break the balloon on it...
Mass chaos....
Enjoying the water sensory tub under the shade of the slide...
Cooling off with a mini-melt Popsicle....

Messy Summer Fun ... Week 2

This summer I thought it would be fun to offer a "Messy Summer Fun" class/camp for 5 weeks... I have limited it to 20 kids... and am hoping for the best... This week we had our second session... Here are some of the highlights...

SENSORY BIN:
This week I used many of the summertime themed items from last week's bin...but added in some smooth rocks...and water...
Ryleigh loved this week's bin...and played with it throughout the week (with fresh water) ....
Braeden... tried to fit a rock in the container...and refused to give up....until eventually he threw both the rock...and the container... he has a pretty good arm on him...but that is a post for another day...
Exploring the sensory bin...
TOOTH BRUSH PAINTING
This week I had the kids use toothbrushes to paint with... I demonstrated how they could flick the paint off of the toothbrush...very messy....but most just wanted to use them like paint brushes... I think all the paintings came out great!
Ryleigh...working hard on her creation...
Braeden had a great time with the paint...and was the last one to decide he was finished...
Showing off her messy hands... although her picture totally matched her cute outfit!
ICE EXCAVATING
This week I froze army men and multi colored beads in three big ice blocks...the kids used buckets, shovels, and sand castle molds to try and melt the ice...and rescue the men...
Melting the ice.. afterward there were little green army men floating everywhere...
Enjoying some swing set time...
Potato Sack/ Water Race- Relay
The kids used potato sacks in the beginning of the race... jumped out... had to transport water by bucket through the sprinkler... and run back to the start... they did this one over and over...
Ryleigh...hippity hopping...
Running with the water... it was such a HOT day...that all the water activities were a big hit!
Water Balloons
After finishing their snack of ice cream cones... the kids got right back into the water activities... and loved the Water Balloons.... next time I totally need to make up more of them.... they broke them much easier ...and quicker.... then I anticipated...

Stay tuned for next weeks messy summer fun....

Field Trippin' ...to Orange County Choppers....

On our way upstate a few weeks ago we stopped at OCC... now...I am not even going to pretend to know anything about the bikes...so... lets not hold me too accountable for my descriptions... this was the first time we have been to the new building...although we have previously stopped at their old location...
Ryleigh was SO super excited that I had her pose for a blog picture...Braeden was anxious to start riding them...or taking them apart...or both...
Both kids really liked looking at all of them... there were some really neat ones...
I should say all three had a great time....
This is the Santa Sled bike...it is my favorite...
This one was also pretty... that's probably not the right description for it...
The 9-11 Bike...it was very cool!
Ready to Roll.....

Messy Summer Fun .... Week 1

This summer I thought it would be fun to offer a "Messy Summer Fun" class/camp for 5 weeks... I have limited it to 20 kids... and am hoping for the best... This morning we had our first session... I have narrowed it down to my favorite 20 pictures....

SENSORY BIN
I made up this summertime sensory bin which included rice, beans, ice cream dishes with little spoons, Hawaiian mask ice cube trays of different colors, ice cream scoops and disposable shot glasses... huge hit with the kids... I have already come up with a theme for next week's bin... I put the bin by our swing set in the shade...so the kids could play with it through out the morning...Braeden... taking a turn on the slide before the messiness began...
Up in the clubhouse....
SHAVING CREAM PAINTING
For our first Messy Activity we did Shaving cream finger painting... we had 15 kids today...and it was nowhere near as messy as I anticipated...which is good I think....
Braeden was pretty unamused by this project... although... he might have been a bit testy from being up since 5 am.... who's to judge really?...
I had two tables set up... next time I will probably use two adjustable tables...
Loving the messy.... besides a great art project (we used primary colors to mix)... this was a great sensory project...
Ryleigh really liked this project...and has requested we do it again...
Braeden...still not really loving this idea...
FROZEN ICE EXCAVATION
I had so much fun making this activity... I froze different shapes and colors of ice...as well as some summertime objects and beads...into one big block of ice... the objective was to get the kids to melt the ice to get to the objects.
Most of the kids headed over after finishing their art projects...
WATER BUCKET RELAY
We split the kids up into two teams (more or less) and had them attempt to fill the other teams bucket until it overflowed... things stayed pretty even for awhile...then they got crafty....

Braeden....enjoyed watching but not participating in this one...most likely because the sprinkler was on by the other bucket...
The game started off civil enough...one bucket per team...
Ryleigh carrying her bucket....
The game got a little dice-ee when one team...or both got creative with other water carrying devices... I believe this ended in one big massive water fight...that pretty much went on for the rest of the morning...
SNACK TIME
The kids enjoyed some mini- slow melt Popsicles for snack... the yard was quiet and semi still for about 5 minutes... :-)
MORE WATER FUN
Having fun in the sprinkler....
Braeden... busy emptying the pool...one bucket-full at a time...
Stay tuned for next weeks messy summer fun....
